New South Wales

New South Wales is Australia’s most populated state. It is situated in the south east portion of the continent. In the north, New South Wales is bordered by the state of Victoria and in the south by Queensland. The state is both varied and vast. New South Wales is characterized mostly by alpine areas blossoming with summer wildflowers. There is even a desolate outback extremes that are interestingly haunted by Aboriginal history and colonial architecture. The most tourist frequented are the beaches that are patronized by the sun all year round. The wildlife is also as fascinating.
New South Wales has been known for throwing our lavish and extravagant feasts. There are numerous events that are regularly staged and held in the state. Every year, the New Year’s Eve is a feast to revel on. After that, New South Wales again makes itself busy in time for the Australia Day, which is a commemoration of the arrival to the Sydney Cove of the First Fleet. For the native Aborigines, there is an alternative celebration called the Survival Day, which is commemorated usually on the same day as the Australia Day. Both events call for a festival of dance, arts and music.
January is a busy month. The celebrations do not end there. Tamworth Country Music Festival also fascinates tourists and local people. In March, the controversial Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is celebrated and observed in Sydney, New South Wales’ capital city. March and April are for Newcastle’s Surfest, the country’s longest-running surf carnival featuring professional performers. In April, the state’s Byron Bay gets dirty in festive moods through the annual and much talked about Roots and East Coast Blues Festival.
October is sort of attractive to sports enthusiasts through the Bathurst 1,000 tour car race. Of course, Christmas and New Year celebrations in New South Wales is a must see and must feel experience for everyone.
Of course, New South Wales’ capital city of Sydney is a main tourist attraction in itself. Aside form the usual city dwelling and posh urban features of Sydney, New South Wales is more than proud to have it as its capital city. Aside from being an important business district, Sydney contains the main Australian landmark, the Sydney Opera House. The Opera House is functional as it is showcasing New South Wales and Australian performing arts.
